The Difference Between Campaign

This campaign translates the realities of road safety science into easy-to-understand scenarios to help shift social norms around safe driving in Spartanburg County. Seemingly small differences can have enormous consequences on our roadways. Like the difference between being hit at 20 mph versus 40 mph. Or between youth and adult crash impacts.

The Slow and Fast set shows the starkly different survival odds of a pedestrian being hit at different speeds. It dramatically combines images that represent two levels of severity: an injury that is survivable and one that is not.

DIFFERENCE IN SEVERITY

The Tardy and Absent set uses school-based imagery and language to communicate the unique vulnerabilities of children and youth on our streets. The cut-out photo style conveys the seriousness of the issue while remaining family-friendly in its presentation.

DIFFERENCE IN AGE

The Safe and Fast set focuses on the visual distortion that occurs at high speeds, when a driver’s field of vision narrows and nearby objects are harder to see. By defining “safe” in opposition to the blurred image, these graphics drive home the fact that speeding is incompatible with safety.
